Horary Column: “Will I get the copywriting job?”
Hello fabulous people! We have our very first horary column blog post up this month. As a reminder, you can totally submit your own question for consideration. Click through to the contact form to send in your question. I’ll be answering one question a month at this time. Answers will be posted without identifying information.
So, here is the question/situation: The person who sent this in is in the process of job hunting. They had not heard back from a copywriting job they applied for and wanted to know if they would get hired. At the time of asking this question, it had been about ten days since they applied.
The chart is for the moment that I understood the question. Below is my interpretation and how I came to this information. Keep in mind, Horary is a traditional branch of astrology that has a variety of “rules” that need to be considered to come to an interpretation. An astrologer forms an interpretation by assessing the lords of specific houses and by considering the rules and how “likely” something is.
Things to consider going in:
First off, we checked the ASC degree to see if it was in a time where we could truly gauge an answer. Seeing the ASC at 3° in Cancer told me that it might be too soon to do the reading and that there were chances that the answer could change. Sometimes an astrologer avoids answering if it is too early or too late as this represents how set the situation is. The moon was not yet void of course, which was another consideration that the answer could be found. We also had Saturn outside of houses that could point to the astrologer’s reputation being damaged by the answer. The day was a moon day and in the hour of Mars. Given that the Querent and Quesited were represented by Mars and the Moon, I decided that although it was early and things could change, I had enough to move forward with.
The Querent (The person asking the question):
The Querant is represented by the Moon in Sagittarius at 27°. Generally, the moon is a co-significator for the Querent and will also tell us about anything that has recently passed that may influence the outcome. It also points to the Querent’s hearts and what is most on their mind. When I look to Lord of the first house, the moon in Sagittarius, and the most recent traditional planet aspect the moon made, I can gauge a good deal of information.
The moon last made a sextile to Jupiter in Aquarius in the 8th house. Right away, I can tell that previously, the Querent had felt like much more was possible, previously. They might have had their mind on an idealistic future, and because Jupiter is Rx, they are now going back on that possibility and realizing that working for themselves only may not be as fruitful. They likely also just went through and reviewed the systems and structures they have in place and the structures so that they can go back to working for someone else. It’s likely that they have big dreams but don’t know how to break them down to smaller goals and getting this job would give them more time to figure this out. Jupiter is also in the 8th house, so there’s this sense of navigating debt or taxes potentially. With the moon in the 6th house, the querent is likely also thinking about becoming an employee for someone else and about their daily routine and how to make positive changes to it. The employment is obvious because of the question, but also because of it being the 6th house which deals with employees and not working for oneself. When I see things that very clear line up with the question, it’s an affirmation that the querent is being honest about their intention and that the answer to the question would benefit them and help them in some way (which is a requirement for horary).
Quesited: (The thing/person we’re inquiring about):
Since we’re answering a question about being potentially hired, I look to the lord of the tenth house. The tenth house is Aries so the lord is Mars which is at 29° in Virgo and is in the 3rd house. That made me LOL because as you may know, editing falls under the domain of Virgo, and the third house deals with communication as well so this lined up with the job the person applied for. I appreciate this kind of line-up because it tells me there’s nothing secretive about the job. The tasks they shared on the application were what would be guaranteed with the position. Mars does not have MAJOR dignity in Virgo but it is in its own term here, so I can see that there is some dignity. The 29° also stuck out to me. I gathered from Mars’ placement that this would be a fast-paced position focused on serving the client first and foremost (gathered from Virgo). I suggested that they may not focus on the employee needs as much as they focus on the client or customer (I didn’t know much about the job aside from it being a copywriting position).
Interpretation
The first thing I had to look at was whether or not the two significators would be making contact and what type of contact they would be making if any at all. I could see that the Moon and Mars would be making a square very soon. I was not thrilled by this. Generally, with this kind of question, we like to see a positive contact (trine or sextile) as it shows positive reception. A square is automatically like EEEEEKKKKK. I also compared the dignity of both Mars and the Moon and found that the moon was STRUGGLING in terms of dignity for the purpose of this chart. I hesitantly gave my response but made it clear that I did not think it would work out.
With all of that being said, to summarize, here was my response:
“I believe you will hear back in either 2 days or 2 weeks. I think the company is looking for someone who is more experienced. I think there is a chance that you MAY get an offer, but I do not see it actually working out. This could be related to pay, schedule, or their needs and your desires.”
Follow-up
This person and I worked out this question in early September and I am just now posting it. The job followed up with the applicant exactly 2 days after, as I had suggested. They passed and did not offer the person the job. They said they thought the applicant was skilled but ultimately they were looking for someone with more experience in a sub-field the person was not as familiar with. While the person did not get an offer as I had hesitantly suggested, the timing did line up, as did the fact that they were seeking someone more qualified.
